The long night of science is over! The DIID successfully participated with an information booth and presented current research projects. Under the heading “Future questions of digitalization”, the DIID presented itself and two projects from its ranks.
On 09.09.2022, the Night of Science took place, where scientists from various disciplines presented their research. The DIID was also represented with a booth on Schadowplatz in downtown Düsseldorf. From 5 p.m. to midnight, the DIID presented not only itself and its own research interests, but also two current projects. Specifically, these were the projects Meinungsmonitor Künstliche Intelligenz and #meinfernsehen2021.
MeMo:KI is a project funded by the Mercator Foundation, in which the attitudes of the population toward AI as well as the media coverage of AI are systematically surveyed. This makes it possible to map progressions in public and published opinion on AI. The goal is to recognize artificial intelligence as an object of political debate and will formation in order to shape its development in favor of civil society.
The #meinfernsehen2021 project is dedicated to the future viability of public service broadcasting (ÖRR) in the context of digitalization. In cooperation with the Grimme Institute and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, an online platform was set up for interested citizens to exchange praise, criticism and suggestions for the reorientation of the ÖRR in various areas. The findings were discussed with experts at a conference and are currently being published in an anthology.
In addition, visitors had the opportunity to express online suggestions and ideas about which research projects they would like to see from us as an interdisciplinary institute. The team was very pleased to present the projects to interested people and to enter into a lively exchange with them! The perspectives of outsiders were perceived as enriching.
