AI | Conflicts | Conventions – PolKomm2023

Welcome to the conference website for the PolKomm conference 2023. Here you will find all relevant information about the joint annual conference of the specialist group “Communication and Politics” of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK), the working group “Politics and Communication” of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) and the specialist group “Political Communication” of the Swiss Society for Communication and Media Studies (SGKM). The conference is organized by the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy (DIID) at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and will take place as a face-to-face event from June 28 to 30, 2023.

Topic of the meeting

For more than three decades now, political communication research has been preoccupied with the steady advance of digitization. The current annual conference, organized by the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy (DIID) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, also uses this metatrend as a thematic bracket to focus on three central aspects of current political communication research: AI, conflicts, conventions.

The conference, to be held in Düsseldorf from June 28-30, 2023, invites researchers in political communication research to submit current research on one or more of the three focus areas. Contributions may be submitted in the form of a strong extended abstract (800-1,000 words, excluding literature, tables, and figures) in electronic format by January 30, 2023, at

Full details on the conference theme and submission modalities can also be found in the Call for Papers.
